Terms of Service for Awaaz

Last updated: 5 September 2026 Effective date: 8 August 2026

Summary (the short version)

Awaaz is a voice-only social network. You record short voice notes; other people hear them and reply with their own voice.

Three things worth knowing before you post:

  1. Your voice notes stay yours. You give us permission to store them and play them to other users of Awaaz. We do not sell them, and we do not use them to train machine-learning models.
  2. You must be 13 or over to use Awaaz.
  3. We can remove content and suspend accounts that break the rules in section 5. That section is short and specific — please read it, because it is what we will point at.

The rest of this document says the same things in the detail that the law requires.

1. Who these terms are between

These Terms are an agreement between you and Awaaz, an app operated by an independent developer based in India (“we”, “us”, “Awaaz”).

By creating an account, or by posting on Awaaz, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy and our Child Safety Standards, both of which form part of this agreement.

2. Who may use Awaaz

If we learn that an account belongs to someone below this age, we will delete it.

3. Your account

Accounts we disable. We may disable an account — for breaking section 5, for evading a previous suspension, or where the law requires it. A disabled account cannot be used to sign in to Awaaz. Its posts and replies are not deleted, and may remain visible to other users along with the replies people recorded on them. Disabling is not deletion: if you want the data erased as well, ask us and we will delete it on the terms set out in Account Deletion. If you think we disabled an account in error, appeal it as described in section 6.

Accounts created before Google sign-in. Awaaz accounts used to be created with a username and an access code, with no email address attached, which meant a forgotten access code locked you out permanently. Every account created that way has now been disabled and can no longer be used to sign in. That was the migration, not a judgement on anyone’s conduct, so the bar in section 2 on returning after a suspension does not apply to it. Their recordings are retained, not deleted. You are welcome to join again with Sign in with Google — that gives you a new account: the old username, posts, followers and history do not carry across, because we have no way to prove that the person signing in with a given Google account is the person who held a particular pre-migration username. If you would rather your old account’s data were deleted, email us.

4. Your content, and what you allow us to do with it

You keep ownership of everything you record. Nothing in these Terms transfers copyright in your voice notes to us.

To run the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, and transmit the content you post, for the purpose of operating and displaying Awaaz to its users. This licence exists so that we can legally store your audio and play it to the people you posted it for. It ends when you delete the content, subject to the tombstoning and backup timelines described in the Privacy Policy.

We will not:

You confirm that you have the right to post what you post — that the voice is yours or you have permission to share it, that any music, clip or image you include is yours to include, and that posting it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.

5. Rules of the platform

Do not post, send, or share content that:

  1. Sexualises children in any way. This is an absolute rule with no exceptions and no warnings — see our Child Safety Standards. Confirmed cases are removed, the account is permanently banned, evidence is preserved, and the matter is reported to NCMEC’s CyberTipline and India’s National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
  2. Threatens, harasses, or incites violence against a person or a group.
  3. Attacks people on the basis of religion, caste, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or serious disease.
  4. Is sexually explicit, or depicts sexual acts.
  5. Encourages self-harm or suicide.
  6. Is somebody else’s private information — a phone number, an address, an identity document, a private recording of a person who did not agree to be recorded.
  7. Impersonates a real person or organisation in a way intended to deceive.
  8. Infringes copyright or trademark — including music you do not have the right to share.
  9. Is spam — automated posting, engagement farming, repetitive promotional content, or links to malware.
  10. Is unlawful in India, or is content an intermediary is obliged to remove under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it.

You also agree not to attack the service itself: no scraping, no automated access outside the app, no attempt to bypass security rules or access another user’s account or data, and no deliberate attempt to distort engagement counts.

6. Reporting, moderation, and enforcement

Reporting. Every post and every profile has a Report option, and every reply can be reported the same way. You can also block any user, which hides their content from you.

What we do. Reports are reviewed by an administrator. Depending on what we find, we may:

Suspensions and bans are carried out by disabling the account, which works as described in section 3: the person cannot sign in, and their existing posts are retained rather than deleted.

We aim to review reports promptly, and we commit to specific timelines for two categories: child-safety reports are acknowledged within 24 hours (see Child Safety Standards), and grievances raised under Indian law are acknowledged within 24 hours and disposed of within 7 days (see Privacy Policy §12).

Notice. Where we remove your content or suspend your account, we will tell you what rule was broken, unless telling you is itself unlawful or would compromise an investigation.

Appeals. If you believe we got it wrong, reply to the notice, or email awaazappofficial@gmail.com with your member number and what happened. A person will look at it again.

Awaaz is an intermediary. We do not pre-screen content. Voice notes are published the moment you record them, and we act on content after it is reported or otherwise comes to our attention.

7. Content you see from other people

Awaaz carries user-generated content, and we do not review it before it appears. You may encounter something you find offensive or wrong. We are not responsible for the content other users post, though we are responsible for acting on it once it is reported under section 6.

If something breaks the rules, please report it. That is the mechanism, and at our size it is genuinely how things get found.

8. Ending your use of Awaaz

You can leave at any time. Delete your account from Profile → Delete Account — Google will ask you to confirm which account you are deleting. Your account is then hidden and scheduled for permanent deletion 30 days later; signing back in before then cancels it. If you have uninstalled the app, lost access to your Google account, or your Awaaz account has been disabled, follow Account Deletion instead. What is deleted and what is retained is set out in that document.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks section 5, that is used to evade a previous suspension, or where we are required to by law. We do that by disabling it, as described in section 3.

9. The service is provided as it is

Awaaz is an independently operated app, offered free of charge and under active development. We do not promise that it will be available without interruption, that it will be free of bugs, or that content will never be lost. Please do not rely on Awaaz as the only copy of a recording that matters to you.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Awaaz is provided “as is” and without warranties of any kind, and our liability to you for any claim arising out of your use of the service is limited to the amount you have paid us, which is nil.

Nothing in this section limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. When we do:

Continuing to use Awaaz after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at New Delhi, India.

Nothing here removes any right you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of the country you live in.

12. Grievance Officer

For complaints about content, about another user, or about how we have handled your data, contact our Grievance Officer. Full details, including the complaint-handling timelines required by the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, are published in Privacy Policy §12.
